Phronesys (pronounced frō-nē'sis) is derived from the work of Aristotle. Aristotle defined the word "phronesis" to mean practical wisdom (Greek - φρόνησις).
Aristotle advocated phronesis as an intellectual virtue - the ability to determine how to achieve a certain desirable end or outcome. This is the foundation of our name. Our spelling is our own creation, with the "sys" reflecting our systems approach to practical innovation.

Phronesys LLC was founded in 2003 by Mark B. Mondry, our Managing Director. Mr. Mondry has more than 20 years experience in various innovation roles in both large and small companies, with a particular emphasis in the medical devices, renewable energy and biosciences fields.
A registered patent attorney, PDMA certified New Product Development Professional and LES Certified Licensing Professional, Mr. Mondry brings strategic insight and deep operational experience, including new product development, manufacturing, ip protection and enforcement, complex licensing, IPO and M&A experience, to each client engagement. Mr. Mondry is also a partner in the intellectual property law firm Phase M, LLP.
Mr. Mondry earned his undergraduate degree in engineering from Miami University (Ohio), a Master's degree in business management from Johns Hopkins University and his law degree from the University of Maryland were he served as an Editor for the Maryland Law Review.
